Budget starts

FM Nirmala Sitharaman is now presenting the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, in the Lok Sabha.

Finance Minister Sitharaman says that since the Modi government came to power, India’s economy has stayed stable, the government has controlled spending, the economy has kept growing, and prices haven’t risen too sharply.

Our government's sankalp is to focus on helping the poor underprivileged and the disadvantaged through three duties: boosting economic growth, empowering people to achieve their aspirations, and ensuring fair access to resources for all, following the idea of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. #Finance Minister

Plan is to invest ₹10,000 crore to make India a global biopharma hub over the next five years by improving research institutes, expanding clinical trial sites, and strengthening drug regulation to meet global standards. #FM

FM Nirmala Sitharaman proposed interventions in the following six areas:

  • Scaling up manufacturing in several strategic and frontier sectors.
  • Rejuvenating legacy industrial sectors.
  • Creating champion MSMEs.
  • Delivering a powerful push for infrastructure.
  • Ensuring long-term security and stability.
  • Developing city economic regions.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman proposed an integrated programme for labour-intensive textiles with 5 key components:

  • National Fibre Scheme: Boosts self-reliance in natural (silk, wool, jute) & man-made fibres.
  • Textile Expansion and Employment Scheme: Modernizes clusters via capital for machinery, tech upgrades, & testing centres.
  • National Handloom and Handicraft Programme (NHHP): Integrates schemes with targeted aid for weavers/artisans.

A scheme for enhancement of construction and infrastructure equipment, will be introduced to strengthen domestic manufacturing of high value and technologically advanced CIE.

FM : The budgeted fiscal deficit for fiscal 2026 is estimated at 4.4 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP)
