Getting a donor won't help you in case of emergency. There is a practical problem in this. As per medical practice, when someone donates blood a number of tests and some kind of processing is done before the same is issued to any recipient. Such process takes 1 or 2 days (in urgent cases the time can cut short to 4 hours at a price). Again after processing it will take some time (30 to 60 minutes)  to match the compatibility of blood samples of recipient and donor. So, in practical life only blood banks where already processed blood is available can help not the donor. This problem I have faced with a very close one.
