It is application  money  given by the co. for purchase of shares of other companies pending allotment of shares as on the Balance Sheet date.

Furthermore, Share application money given implies the amount shown in the Balance Sheet in the assets side....Share application money given during the year means the amount which has been given during the year to other companies...

For eg., in the BS the figure of application money given is 100, whereas during the year only 50 has been advanced....implying the remaining is the one which has been given in pror period...
