Hi Friends.

Based on my observations and suggestions and comments of various learned people on CCI,I reached the conclusion that these are the best books for CA Final course (New). However there are some doubts due to multiple favours for many books in a subject, am also mentioning the options. Please help me select the best...(Keeping in mind that am not going for coaching classes i.e. self-study).

FOR EXAM -ORIENTED PREPARATION

  FINANCIAL REPORTING - M.P.VIJAYKUMAR-Buying.

ACCOUNTING STANDARDS - M.P.VIJAY KUMAR/D.S.RAWAT/PADHUKA--??and why?

SFM - A.N. SRIDHAR and PATTABHI RAM --Buying Both.

ADVANCED AUDITNG - PADHUKA + SURBHI BANSAL'S NOTES --Buying Both.

CORPORATE AND ALLIED LAWS - MUNISH BHANDARI Textbook and Handbook --Buying Both.

ADVANCED MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING - PADHUKA or SAXENA-VASHISHT or any other book--??and why?

I require AMA book which helps to clear concepts, good theory and adequate problems for solving.

ISCA   - INSTITUTE STUDY MATERIAL and (PADHUKA or DINESH MADAN or DEVANG DALAL) --??and why?

I require ISCA book which contains institutes material language in precise Q & A Format.

DIRECT TAXES - TN MANOHARAN or PADHUKA or VINOD GUPTA --??and why?

INDIRECT TAXES-  YOGENDRA BANGAR or VAITHEESWARAN or V.S.DATEY--??and why?

I require Direct and Indirect Taxes Books which are helpful for understanding concepts, contains adequate problems and also at the same time helpful for last minute revision.Suggest more than one book if one doesnt fulfill all of the above.

Your suggestions are valuable to me!

Thx. in advance.

for costing sanjay aggarwal is good

Hi,

For Indirect taxes - Yogendra Bangar is good for passing the exam but not otherwise. But right now that is only the priority so I liked it.

Even I am confused for DT and ISCA as I also require distinction among above books on the ground:

Self Study: Q & A

Last yr solved questions chapterwise (behind every chapter)

Concise but Clarity

Helpful for quick revision and recalling the facts - Immediately after exam

Effective Presentation: Font size should not be too small

Pls help me

Thx

Monika

FINANCIAL REPORTING -

FOR PRACTCAL PART DO PARVEEN SHARMA ( INCLUDING AS PRACTICAL QUESTIONS)

FOR ACCOUNTING STANDARDS DO D.S. RAWAT

Go for

Padhuka in (Costing)

&

(ISCA) as it contains material language which is essential in current exam scenario.

Bangar for indirect  tax is voluminious nd good but not for last minute revision. i m confused regd. good revision book for IDT pls. anyone suggest?

Direct Tax go for T. N. Manoharan,Vinod Gupta is voluminious nd not good for last minute revision.

Dude, im frm Mumbai and cant come to delhi to take classes of these professors u see and also my attempt is in May 12.dats y i asked for options to choose from refrence books recommended by all which i hav mentioned above. But atleast u replied unlike others..bye.tc.

1)Financial Reporting

Ur choice is really gud. Go ahead with M.P.Vijaykumar. The only problem with this book is that it does not cover the entire syllabus. But I think we can refer module 4 topics not covered by MPV.

2)Accounting Standards

I cant say which one is better since I havent read Paduka or Rawat. I use MP Vijaykumar & am pretty satisfied with it.

3)SFM

Again ur choice is superb. I am a big fan of Pattabhiraman's book. That does not mean that the book does not have any flaws. It has got a number of drawbacks. But the USP of this book is the conceptual clarity it provides to the reader. Dont know about Sridhar. Have read in many forum threads that it is good & contains a large number of sums. And thats important for one using Pattabhiraman bcoz Pattabhiraman does not contain that many problems.

For a detailed descripttion of all the above books(except Sridhar), pls refer to this link /forum/reference-book-149464.asp

4)Auditing

It is a good choice. Surbhi bansal is brief so can be used 4 revision purpose(especially during the days b4 the exam). Also I think it is better to do auditing standards from this book. But 4 other topics use it in combination with Paduka/Module. Personally I am not too impressed with Paduka's auditing book. In my opinion, Paduka=Module in Q & A format+compliation+RTPs. Why waste around Rs.400 for things which u already have with u?  But if u like to study in Q & A format, then it is a gud choice.

5)Corporate & Allied Laws

Munish Bhandari's book is just outstanding. I think it is the only self sufficient reference book. If u are reading from Bhandari, then u dont have to refer anything else(thats not the case with most of the other reference books.). I dont  have the handbook but I think it will be very useful during revision time.

6)Management Accounting

I am currently using module for this subject. Had purchased Paduka but was not at all satisfied. It is a very good book 4 doing sums. But as a person doing self study, I needed to understand everything myself without any external support. So the book I would be referring should make me understand things. Sadly I found Paduka inadequate in this aspect. I am overall satisfied with the institute module but recently I experienced some trouble in understanding a topic. So I am now myself in a dilemma whether to buy a reference book..also I dont know which one to buy..So I cant really suggest u a reference book..My only advise wud be to not buy Paduka- in the hope that it would give u conceptual clarity(But for problem solving purpose, u can definitely buy it). Buy some book which makes u learn concepts( I read in some forum thread that Ravi M Kishore is good).

7)ISCA

Go with Gaurav’s suggestion.  I havent seen the ISCA book by paduka but generally all books of paduka follow institute language & are in Q & A format. So I think both ur requirements will be met  by paduka. In between, I am not using any reference book  4 dis subject. I feel it is better to module .

8)DT

I am using T.N.Manoharan. It is a very good book. It is neither too lengthy nor too brief. It contains adequate number of illustrations. It also carries previous year questions at the end of each chapter. Provisions are very well explained in this book. It is apt 4 self study. But I cant say whether it is better than paduka or Vinod Gupta as I havent read any of these.

9)IDT

I was in total confusion regd which book to buy 4 this subject(still a little confused). First I bought V.S. Datey. I have to say that it is a good book. I understood whatever I read from the book(though I read only 2-3 chapters of excise from this book). But I felt the book to be a little bit disorganised. Provisions were given in a haphazard fashion(at least it appeared to me so). It was also a bit bulky(especially the excise part). The other drawback was that it did not contain any problems. So I decided to purchase another book. I had almost decided to purchase Bangar after reading all the positive opinions about it in this forum. However I changed my mind after reading the post by Ravi under this link /forum/may-2011-final-new-course-best-book-for-idt-103837.asp. I decided to buy Vaitheeswaran. This book was smaller in size compared to Datey. I found the book to be better organised. But even this book did not have problems(except in valuation & SSI). So I purchased the compiler of Bangar. Upto now I have completed VAT & some part of excise. The VAT topic is not explained really well in Vaitheeswaran. I understood things better by going through the Bangar compiler. But I am really satisfied with the way excise is explained in Vaitheeswaran. Overall I think this book is really helpful in understanding concepts. But I have read in some forum threads that it does not cover some areas of indirect tax laws. Dont know how much truth is there in it. Anyway I am going to base my studies on this book+compiler. After finishing the book, I shall give a quick read of the provisions from the module or datey to see whether anything is left uncovered in this book.

Hello gaurang

as per my opinion/research on books. My choice is

FR-sharma sir notes(available in Mkt)

AS- Rawat

SFM- Makkar sir notes for practical questions & pattabhi ram to know concept{very well  explained} vaise akle Makka sir ke notes bahut hai( CHOICE Is MAKKAR SIR NOTES)

Audit- Surbhi Mam+Practise Manual(more than enough)  waise bhi audit ka paper bhaut practical hota(practise Manual se bas Questions Dekna ki kya banaya hai, jo provisions surbhi mam ki books se padoge) (CHOICE is SURBHI MAM BOOK)

Law- Bhandari sir Handbook only( after reading sections try to make ur own chart & diagrams)

costing No idea ( i took coaching of sanjay sir & use his notes)

Isca Best book Dinesh madan sir book + Try to arrange memonics ONLY(given in Dalal sir book)

DT -  i took VG sir coaching & use his book only

Idt- BANGAR (u will definately clear exam after reading Bangar alone, but no gurantee concept clear or not) therefore as per my recommendation Purchase bangar & DG sir books(DG sir books u may use only jahan aap concept ko samajhne mein problem feel & uses his books charts) but padahi Bangar se hi karna

BEST OF LUCK

Thx. a ton guys for adequately satisfying my queries and getting rid of the dilemma i was in these days regarding final books. From my PCC experience (3 attempts) i realised the importance of studying from the best available books before hand instead of letting it loose & repent later.

All the best for the future to you & myself........

Hi gaurang. You can go for Ajay Jain sir's latest edition 14th for Indirect tax-its good for revision purpose,im planning to buy the same.

is there a reason why students don't use Shukla Grewal and RL Gupta for Advanced Accounting and Reporting. Or even Hrishikesh Chakraborthy

During my times it used to be the only book students read.

I also see that these authors are recommended by all professional Institutes.

Then????
