If this is all a reality show, an accountant is the contestant and an auditor is the judge.
An accountant prepares a dish the entire year, and you are supposed to taste and tell whether he has done a god job or not.
The above is the difference between an auditor and an accountant but not an accountant and a chartered accountant.
To clarify further, I will state the obvious. Every auditor is a chartered accountant (Barring the people in C & AG) but every chartered accountant is not an auditor. It all depends on what job you do.
There are many CAs who do the business of BPO in accounting. So, in a way; they are accountants but on a very large scale. Once you become a CA, what you do and what work you handle is a matter of choice and industry demands.
