Ex-ICAI president, Mr K.Raghu, has made a deplorable statement in his recent address to CA students. He has reportedly stated that
"I passed CA exams in 1990 when pass percentage was 2.90%."
Somebody needs to remind him that
A.This isn't the India of 1990's anymore, rather, 25 years well-past 1990.Now, most CA Final students are those who were born AFTER 1990.
B.My Dad tells me that, In 1990 most people didn't even have an idea of what CA course is.Leave that,my cousin(now a CA) tells me that till 2006 common people didn't have much idea what CA is.They presumed it to be some 'computer applications' course!Further, my Dad adds that most people in his know who sat for CA exams in 80-90's barely managed to clear their B.Com exams.Of these many ACTUALLY became CAs.Can you believe it!!
C.It's a well-known FACT that when the influx of students in a course increases, specifically when many of these students are extremely brillant, the pass percentages should simultaneously increase.
Imagine
In 1990, only 10000 students sit for CA exams(& this is an overstatement).Of these 3000 are unprepared & just writing gibberish.Of the remaining 7000,5000 are average students(& by that I mean somehow managed to PASS B.com).Of these 7000,only 2.90% pass, i.e.,203.
Now, Come to 2015:
Of the 150000 students sitting for the exam, as per Mr K.Raghu, only 2.90% students should be passed as that shows 'STANDARD'.
Can you guys actually believe that people with such PRIMITIVE mindset & ludicrous theories are being allowed to run an important body like ICAI.
Last, Till 2006 ICAI office in my city was a one small rented room in a local public school with 1 table,2 chairs & 2 member staff. Now, they have a full well-built office thanks to the increase in interest in the course.ICAI management can accept revenue readily BUT dsn give 2-hoots regarding a student's career.SHAME!
