ok...well how much time will it take 2 prepare for CFA level 1..i have portfolio mgt and derivatives in CA - final...and i knw economics as well...will 2 weeks b enough???

1 month makes more sense, assuming u havnt completed Mafa/ Sfm syllabus

nd if ive completed sfm syllabus...then how much time?

Guys,

Atleast 2 to 3 months preparation required for Level 1.Style of preparation is entirely differnt compared with CA.You should be crystal clear with the concepts for CFA where as in CA u should concentrate more on presentation skills.

Hi everybody,

CFA is one intense course which mainly relies on how clear you are with your concepts. The very curriculum itself has the foundation of Valuation modelling, Derivative structures, Fixed Income Structure, Corporate Finance and a preliminary Alternative investments. The praparation for CFA exams depends on whether a person is able to understand the concept and most importantly is able to apply such concepts to real life situations.

The other aspect that is required to be taken care of is the marking structure. Even though you might have done the derivatives part or Alternative investments part, they are not going to fetch a lot of marks for you. So, it is advised mby many Gurus to prepare as per the marking structure. e.g. Financial Reporting & Analysis covers 20% of the markig schedule which means that a totalk of 48 questions will there out of 240 questions in the level 1 exam. Anotrher important area is Ethics which requires a lot of mind and may even be a boon to you for clearing the MPS (Minimum Passing Score), which varies every year and is never disclosed.

From June 2011, it has been made mandatory to have a Valid Passport before the application/registration process. For more details IT is advisable to explore https://www.cfainstitute.org

The detailed marking structure are as follows:

Ethics:                                                                          15%

Quants:                                                                        12%

Economics:                                                                 10%

Financial Reporting & Analysis:                               20%

Corporate Finance:                                                     8%

Fixed Income:                                                              12%

Equity:                                                                            10%

Portfolio Mnagement:                                                  5%

Derivatives:                                                                    5%

Alternative Investments:                                              3%
