Can epf contributions continue after leaving salaried job?

Hello,

If someone leaves his salaried job to continue business/freelance work, is he allowed to continue the contributions from his individuals earnings to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF)? OR does the EPF contributions necesarily go away as soon as salaried job is gone?

I know PPF can be started by individual businessmen, but my question is about EPF.
