Officials of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday night recovered unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 1.68 crore, gold ornaments worth Rs 9.70 lakh and silver ornaments worth Rs 44,462 from the house of PWD executive engineer Vikram Parshuram Jadhav (45).

Jadhav and senior clerk Yogesh Ramesh Tarate (33) were arrested by the ACB on Tuesday evening for taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from civil contractor Prashant Tukaram Doke (40) of Alephata in Junnar taluka. The bribe was demanded to clear the bills of the road construction work the contractor had carried out for the PWD.

Additional police superintendent (ACB), Tushar Dosi, said an ACB team, led by inspector Radhika Phadake, conducted a search of Jadhav’s house situated at Butte Patil Prestige, Revenue Colony, Shivajinagar, soon after the arrests were made on Tuesday. “All the ornaments and cash were recovered from the three-bedroom flat (no. 11) in the building,” he added.

The cash was kept in three suitcases. One suitcase containing Rs 58 lakh was found in the cupboard, while the other two were kept under the bed. “All the notes were in the denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500,” Dosi added. Also recovered from the house were insurance policies of Rs 14.85 lakh.

Investigations revealed that Jadhav owns a 33-guntha plot at Vadki in Hadapsar. He also owns a shop on Jangli Maharaj road, which is in his wife’s name. The search team has recovered several documents pertaining to land deals. Jadhav owns a bungalow in Karmala in Solapur district, which is his native place. “A team has been sent to Karmala for further investigations, ” Dosi said. Meanwhile, Jadhav and Tarate were produced before the special court on Wednesday, which sent them to police custody till May 7.
