The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the re-appointment of Shri Ravi Agrawal, IRS (IT:88028), as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The appointment is on a contract basis for a period of one year, commencing July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The decision, communicated via office order No.31/1/2025-EO(SM.II), was issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel & Training on June 28, 2025. The reappointment comes under relaxed recruitment rules applicable to re-employed Central Government officers.

As per the terms of the reappointment, Shri Agrawal will continue in his leadership role overseeing the administration of direct tax laws, tax policy formulation, and taxpayer services at a time when India's income tax framework is increasingly leveraging digital compliance and data analytics for enforcement and transparency.
The order was signed by Manisha Saxena, Secretary, Appointments Committee of the Cabinet & Establishment Officer, and has been forwarded to the Department of Revenue, Prime Minister's Office, and the Cabinet Secretariat for necessary compliance and record.
This reappointment reflects the government's confidence in Shri Agrawal's continued leadership in steering the CBDT through critical policy reforms and enhancing efficiency in tax administration.
