GSTN Enables GST Payments via UPI and Debit/Credit Cards Across 24 States

Last updated: 05 September 2025

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has rolled out a facility that allows taxpayers to make GST payments using Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Debit/Credit Cards. This move is expected to significantly simplify tax compliance by offering faster, more flexible, and user-friendly payment options.

The new facility is now live in 24 States and Union Territories, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh. Recently, Mizoram was also added to the list, with Debit Card payments enabled via Indian Bank and UPI payments available through South Indian Bank. GSTN confirmed that the remaining states and banks will be onboarded in a phased rollout.

The initiative supports all major payment networks-RuPay, Visa, MasterCard, and Diners-ensuring accessibility for a wide range of taxpayers. Payments can be routed through several leading banks such as Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Canara Bank, IDFC First Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bandhan Bank, Indian Bank, Dhanlaxmi Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, and South Indian Bank.

The applicability differs across banks: while ICICI Bank and Bandhan Bank support credit card payments, Karnataka Bank and South Indian Bank currently provide UPI-only services.

By introducing this facility, GSTN has expanded payment choices beyond net banking and over-the-counter challans, making tax payments as simple as everyday digital transactions.

This update marks another milestone in the government's "Digital India" vision, strengthening transparency, efficiency, and ease of compliance for millions of businesses and individual taxpayers.
