Yes, the facility is a one-time, one-way switch. Employees can switch from UPS to NPS only once and cannot revert back to UPS.
The switch must be made at least one year before superannuation or three months before voluntary retirement. It is not permitted in cases of removal, dismissal, compulsory retirement, or if disciplinary proceedings are ongoing or contemplated.
Employees who do not opt for the switch within the stipulated time will continue under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) by default.
