Because a GST registration is tied to a specific PAN, you cannot simply update the name on the existing account. Instead, you must cancel the existing registration due to the death of the proprietor and apply for a new GST registration for the legal heir. Any remaining Input Tax Credit can be transferred to the new registration by filing Form GST ITC-02.
