Its depends upon in which state you are going to start new business. Suppose you are having business at Ludhiana Punajb as proprietary firm and want to do same business in same state at Jalandhar Punjab  with same constitution then the need of new registration does not arise at all. however if you want to change constitution of the business at new place then new registration will be required.even if you change the state from Punjab to some other state say Gujrat the new registration is required.

If both the firm name is different you must registered both the firm in vat deptartment.Nothing a problem   if Prop.is same,same address,business is same.

  Sir, Both unit are in Gujarat that to even in the same city and same locality as well.

   Unit Name is different and constitution is same

You need to ammend your existing VAT registration certificate by adding a new unit with your current VAT registration number.

2. want to start new unit with new registration number in same state.

Yes new registration because it is considered as a new business and altogether new entity, and it needs to maintain different set of books of accounts. (i.e. 2 different businesses for one individual)

If you will start the same business with same name, u only have to amend your VAT Registration certificate for additional place of business from the concerned dept, but in your case your are going to open an other business of place with diffrent name thats why u need to apply a new tin number and registration even the business or propriter is same.

In this situation you can apply for the Branch Certificat
