Well One of my friend said that recently 10-15 days back there was an enquiry which took place at his place.

It was regarding some bill he have drawn somewhere in 2006 on whose vat he havent forwarded or he said he couldnt find the necessary documents now.

Though he settle the matter on personal level.

Wanted to ask somewhere i read that income tax returns cant be scrutinized after 1-2 years of financial or assessment year.Than how come a 5 year old bill querry have been taken out in this case by sales tax department here.Want this lead to unnnecessary harassment or requirement to save old paper loads and others.

vat refund cases filed by his buyer might get passed in appeal stage and input credit has to get checked by audit team, cross verification is needed for this. no time limit is prescribed for this type of checking,

as he was not able to show the bills, but he had returns of the period, and in returns he had to show the bills entry ,. that would be sufficient.
