Urgent query on scrutiny assessment

Hi all

I have a case please reply me urgently ----

Previous year 2006-07

Assessment year 2007-08

Return filed on 20-07-2008 (belated)

Notice u/s 143(2) received before 30-09-2009 (i.e. before end of 6 months from the financial year in which the return is filed)

Now my question is that what is the time limit for completion of assessment u/s 153(1). Whether it is 31-12-2009 (i.e. 21 months from the actual assessment year) or 31-12-2010 (i.e. 21 months from the end of year in which return is filed )

Please reply urgent

Dear Deepak,

For AY 2007-08, Time limit for completion of assessment u/s 153(1) was 21 months from the end of the AY..

Hence the last date would be 31.12.2009.

Dear Friends,

kindly clear my doubt

if a person files Return of income for F.Y. 2005-06 on 01/03/2009 .

in the above case , How the period for completion of Scrutiny Assessment be determined (ie.21 Months from A.Y.)

Dear reena,

Voluntarily Return for FY 2005-06 (AY 2006-07) could have been filed till 31-3-2008.

Further if No Return has been filed till 31-3-2008 then Srcutiny u/s 143(3) cannot be made....

Assessment u/s 144/ 147 is possible........

Plz specify ur doubt............

Att Mr. Deepak,

Time limit for completion of scruitny u/s 143(3), as prescribed by section 153(1) is 21 months from the end of the Relevant Assessment Year i.e. 31.12.2009.
