In my view, a proper textbook cannot be compared to notes. If you are going for self study , you can go for Tulsian sir book without any doubt.

Once you will start reading the book, you will realise that a teacher is teaching you and you would not require to watch any DVDs whatsoever.

Further, regarding Accounting Standards(AS), AS-21,23,27,30,31,32 are covered in Tulsian sirs main textbook itself in detail, so there is no problem.

Regarding other AS, you may refer other book for concepts and then practise questions from Tulsian sirs book on "problems and solutions on Accountin Standards and Guidance Notes". This book comes along free with the main textbook.
