Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the rules around Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on rent payments in India. It explains that TDS is generally not required for annual rent below Rs. 2,40,000. Specific TDS rates apply to plant & machinery (2%) and land & buildings (10%), with different rates applicable before March 31, 2021. The deduction is mandatory if the annual rent exceeds Rs. 20,000 and the payment is for business purposes, particularly if a tax audit was required in the preceding year. Personal rent payments typically do not require TDS.

As per sec .194 I - Limt Rs .20000
TDS required when annual rent paid is exceeding 240000.
another condition is that it is for the business and you have tax audit in year previous to the last year.
