shortage of practising ca

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is trying hard to get more professionals into practise. “At present more than 80 per cent of chartered accountants are employed with some company or the other. Very few opt to take up practice. But the opportunities are opening up and we foresee a huge shortage of practising professionals,” Mr G. Ramasamy, Vice-President, ICAI said.

To get more candidates take up the CA programme, the institute is planning to conduct the CPT (Common Proficiency Test) exam every month.

“It will be an online exam. The candidates can go to the respective centre and do the exam and get the result almost immediately. Once he/she clears the CPT exam, they can register for article-ship and take up the intermediate and final exams.’

This will enable more candidates to take the CA course. The institute has tied up with Bharathiar University here to offer a programme for students.

The institute is also gearing up to reorient the examination system to test the application skills of the students. “CA students have always been good in theory. But there is huge demand for intelligent candidates and those capable of applying their knowledge efficiently. We have therefore planned to reorient the current examination system and correct the balance by emphasising more on practical application skills,” he said.

Further, to hone the skills and mould them into excellent professionals, the institute is planning to put in place regular classroom teaching at all important places under the aegis of Board of Studies. These classes would provide complete guidance and enable personal interaction between teachers and students. Applicability skills would be a thrust area and the study material revised accordingly.

Thanks a lot Kaya...I hope you won't have taken it otherwise.............

Once again thanks  a lot for the updates...........

My views on this is that the picture is true, now a days the scenario has altogether revesred as compared to 30 years back where 20% CA go for service and 80% for Practice.........and now it 80% for Job and 20% for practice..

One of the main reason for this is the emerging scene of companies and the high pay scales to CA. It is true that in intial years of practice, it is difiicult to find Clients and there is lot of struggle and patience required. and because of this CAs hesitate to practice in the initial stage of years.

Looking forward to your views too.........

this is a result of ICAI policies...people work for 2000-3000 stipends for 3 yrs...after clearing CA why would they struggle for money....so we choose a better option Job..

yup

agree with prateek, we are made work like hell during training and in the end paid a meagre of Rs. 3000-5000, and once u come into practise again bargain with client on fees, so why to compromise on your integrity and respect on bargaining for money and why not go for job instead where u can work and get paid for your work as per your calibre.

Will it also mean that, in some future attemps, pass percentage of Final & PCC students may increase?

hi all..

its realy true..so i just started my practice in pune city.

ICAI sees huge shortage of practising professionals

================ MY PERSONAL VIEWS ==== NO OFFENCE INTEDED ==========

Hi All,

The Topic heading is very catchy but in statement made about shortage of Practicing CA is not correct. You refer any tier 2 city where there is supply, supply and supply of Practicing CA with very less demand resulting into lower value of practicing CA. They struggle like anything.

Then Next question comes why those guys are practicing in cities where there is not much demand.....the answer is they don't want to leave their family back in town and work here in metros.

To my mind there is no scarcity of practicing CA and in case there is then please share this opportunities with CA Firms who are struggling for their survival in small cities.

Good discussion forum. Thanks for sharing 4 50 m4ny t1m35.

ICAI is to be blamed. Their training method is to be blamed. Will 3 years and 6 months of tickdaa ensure clients when we start practise.buggers!
