Is there any exemption from service tax on transport of goods by road?
It would be helpful if ref. of relevant notification/circular is also provided.

There is no exemption other than the small providers (< 10 lakhs turnover). This is only in the hands of the PROVIDER of service and not the recepient. Recepient of service liable to pay service tax gets no exemption. For purpose of calculating the turnover of service provider, for whatever payment the recepient bears the tax, that turnover is excluded. Only whatever payments for which tax responsibility is that of provider is included and he gets his SSI exemption.

One of our client has said that they have service tax excemption for government infrastructure project like DAM. we are supplying ready mix concrete to this client which is attracting VAT. But for pumping of ready mix concrete we are charging service tax.
Kindly let me know is srevice tax on pumping charges of ready mix concrete for dam project of government is exempted or not.
