I have one caterers bill. They are suppling Tea & Coffee to us. They have chaged Service tax 6.18% on full amount & VAT 12.5% on full amount. I just want to konw whether they come under abatements & if so they can charged VAT on full amouant.

VAT cannot be charged on the service element.
I experienced a situation where the restaurant charged service tax @ 3.60% on full bill (food and alcohol)and 13.50% VAT on total bill excluding hard drinks.

We are running a canteen in our company and We have to pay amount to canteen contractors. Every month we pay him around Rs. 1.90 to 2 lac. So, Please let me know Service tax in applicable for the same case....
