if we had registered already under vat showing in same state as branch and head office and now we dont want any head office as we want to make branch as only head offcice....so can we apply gst number directly on branch address by showing it as location of business directly or we had to surrender vat number first???

No need to surrender your vat registration.
You have to submit the proof of address of location of business.

but i think in case of migration there is no need to surrender.... but when we register in gst as a fresh den it is necessary to surrender???

if u are register a fresh application then no question of surrender is arise.
if u are already registered in vat with other address you just need to amend the gst registration after migration by filing a rectification request at gst portal.
