Recently somebody told me that the central excise has introduce the new format of pan based registration for importer
which format is ABNPM1234EI001 for Importer(XD/ED for dealer and XM/EM for Manufacturer) i want to know is this different from Import Export Code(IEC) Number

Sir,
Both concepts are different if you want to export or Import from foreign country then you need IEC and it is provided by the DGFT (Direct General Foreign Trade).

New pan based registration is for importers who are issuing cenvatable invoices for imported goods.
