can a proxy cast vote on behalf of member of the company who has appointed a person as his proxy, if so, can a proxy be a proxy for any number of members, example: Mr.X is appointing Mr.Y as his proxy and can Mr.Y also be appointed by other person also , if so, can Mr.Y cast votes on behalf of Mr.X and also on behalf of other person also., please clarify

A proxy does not have a right to vote. He can only vote in case of a poll.
And a same person can be appointed by more than 1 member as a proxy.

Proxy can cast vote in case demand of poll only, one person can be the proxy of more than one sharholder and cast vote for all. In case of Pvt. Ltd. company they can provide anything else in their Articles regarding Proxy and that will prevail.

Only a representative appointed by a company (if the company is a member) can participate in the voting process. However, as a representative of the company he can vote but not in the capacity as a proxy. I concur with other views as well.
