Political parties within the ambit of rti act

The Central Information Commission (CIC), a quasi-judicial body with the powers of a civil court, has recently come up with a decision that India’s political parties are public authorities and answerable to citizens under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. I think it is a significant ruling that could sharply increase the scrutiny on them.

Political parties comes within Right to Information (RTI) Act are, the Congress party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Communist Party of India (CPM), the Communist Party of India, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Now these parties, if queried, will now have to disclose sources of their funding as well as details of expenditure. I think it is a good move as far as prevention of corruption is concerned and pave way for greater transparency in the working of Political parties.

Sir,

It is good step for a strong democracy. As we have a perception every political party collect some funding by way of DADAGIRI. not only that at the time of formation of govt. they paid huge amount for purchase of MP and their aide aaliance.

There are few more organisation where RTI should be adopted as like our cricket board (BCCI).

Thanks Sandeep for sharing your opinion. This step will be very useful towards tracking the use of black money in politics.

Further debate regarding coverage of BCCI in RTI is going on and I am very hopeful that one day RTI act will become applicable on BCCI as well.

A very good decision that will tighten the noose on the political parties. With the implementation of the ruling, they will surely feel the heat and we hope that corruption and malpractices from the politics will get eliminated to a larger extent.

But what came as a surprise was that how united the parties stood with each other in criticism of the ruling, something which is really shameful.

As far as BCCI is concerned, it should also come within the ambit of the RTI. And I dont know whether the charitable trusts are covered in RTI or not, like those run by Baba Ramdev, Asaram and many more, but in my opinion, they should also come within the ambit of RTI. There should be minimal exemption and maximum coverage under RTI.

yes, Neeraj all such type of organisation or trust run over public money must be in RTI. It will give fair and clean picture of all concern organisation.

very good idea.

Thanks Neeraj for sharing your opinion.

It is a fact that there are so many charitable trusts which are involved in promoting corruption by converting black money into white through the route of donations and also misusing relaxations provided by Income Tax Deptt. to charitable trusts and other such organisations. Personally I feel that such charitable trusts and other allied organisations should be covered under RTI Act.

Indeed, they should be covered under RTI, but I am really apprehensive that whether the law would be implemented in the best of the spirits, inspite of all the announcements and rulings by the authorities, commisions, because in our country the culprits have been entrusted with the task of safeguarding the law. And vehement opposition of the recent ruling just casts a doubt on the efficient implementation and exercise of the law.

Agree with your apprehension regarding execution of law in the right spirit.

But I am happy that something relevant has been enacted from our authorities to curb the mala fide activities adversely affecting public at large. Further I am very hopeful as far as efficient implementation and exercise of the law is concerned.

Further I am glad to experience your and Sandeep’s participation in this thread otherwise this thread remain unnoticed.

Regards

Yes of course, the enactment is applaudible.

And sir, we are glad being in touch with you , a face that has given the CCI a recognition and having the luxury of your privileged company. As far as thread going unnoticed is concerned, there is no question of it sir, because your posts only appeal to millions of members on CCI and they have been gaining right through from it .

wish RTI act accommodate with Right people, But the real work begins after facts been disclosed by RTI.., as it happens.. it just becomes "Breaking news" for couple of days on every news channel, and we just forget abt it later. Wish that, along with disclosure of unaccounted funds and their sources, concerned dept shd make sure that funds reach back to where it belongs, and case shd not be closed before it gets solved.., Right topic choosen by you Ankur Sir, Thankyou..:-)
