If Sachin has rupee and wanna buy dollar ..and if the quote is direct i.e, ₹/dlr ..then ask rate will apply .. If quote is indirect i.e, dlr/₹ ..then bid rate wil apply..

While doing Forex Conversion Questions Keep yourself in the seat of the Banker ( As if You are a Banker ) Then in your given case you as a Banker would buy Rs from Sachin & Sell Dollars to Him

We have rupees and If the quote is direct i.e , ₹/dlr .here dollar is commodity(denominator)..so if we wanna buy commodity(dollar) .. we have to buy at ask rate(high rate) from the bank..and if quote is indirect i.e ,dlr/₹ ..then here ₹ is commodity ..and we have rupees, that means we have commodity ..and if should sell ur commodity to bank to get dollars ..but bank wil purchase ur commodity( rupees) only at low rate ..so bid rate wil apply if quote is indirect.. [denominator of a direct or indirect quote is commodity, so if u wanna buy commodity from bank , u should buy at high rate(ask rate) and if u r selling the commodity to bank , u must sell at a low rate (bid rate)]

  The simple logic is bank buy at low rate and sell at high rate e.g. if Rs/$ rate of a bank is 45/46 it means bank is buying $ buy giving rs 45 only and selling the same $ to the bidder @ 46 for getting re.1 profit here 45 is bid rate and and 46 is ask rate. To make it indirect quote change the position opp. i.e. 1/46 bid and 1/45 ask will be the indirect quote.
