I had received my monthly pension dues from 1/2017 in 1/2020 only as arrears. I had filed the Income Tax return for the FY years 2016-17 to 2018-19. Now how to account my pension arrears for the back period which was received only in the FY 2019-20. It is told by my office that I should file Form 10-E in the Income Tax Department for the back period arrears physically. Whether physical filing of return is allowed by the IT department nowadays. Kindly guide me as TDS is deducted on the pension arrears.

No, there is no such issues involved in this case.

as the arrears received is filled under section 89 and in form 10e and, no requirement of filling returns of previous years offline and so.

You can file ITR normally. Relief u/s 89 will available.

Just file your income tax return as usal like before
this time you have to file form 10E for those arrea pension and to get relief as per section 89
for the mentioned year in the incometax portal no need for offline
first file form 10E then your return

and regarding physical filling return yes it is allowable in certain cases not for all cases
