Notice Under section 148

My friend received a notice under section 148 for A.Y. 2011-12 asking to file return in prescribed format within 30 days..

Can anyone, plz, tell me what this prescribed format actually is?

Also guide me to respond to this notice?

should i visit to A.O. before filing return? do I need to hire CA for this now?

u cn complete the assessment proceedings by urself or u cn hire any CA for this. return format is same as normal. this is scrutiny proceedings.

it department have some info about your business deal since they are in opinion that u are liable to file return and paying tax as u have not filed return u r
opinion in that
u r not liable to pay tax u both have to contradict each other

this is a notice to initiate reassessment u/s 147..First of all you should ask the reasons to belive for opening reassessment from the AO and it is better to consult a CA for appropriate replies ..

first of all file ROI for concerned a.y for which you have been issued with 148 notice and submit the same either by post or personally before the AO. based on your ROI, you will be issued with 143(2) notice and on the hearing date mentioned in the 143(2) notice, take all relevant documents based on which you have computed total income and appear before AO either personally or send it through post. based on the details submitted, the AO will pass assessment order. if you have enough free time there's no need to hire ca however CA's aware of intricacies germane to income tax and will be really helpful for you to get assessment order in favour
