No form 16 - can i claim standard deduction?

My wife works as teacher in a pre-school (with less than 70 kids) - Her salary gets credited through bank account with descripttion "Salary for mmm yyyy", but there is no pay slip provided. There is no TDS (salary within taxable income). Form 16 is also not provided. However my wife has other source of income (interest income from FDs) and so she has taxable income. Can she show the salary under head "Salary" and claim standard deduction of 40000?
