Need urgent help regrding claiming income tax refund.

Greetings to every CCI member.

I have a urgent query regarding claiming income tax refund.

Online income tax return for an individual in ITR 4 was filed for the assessment year 2008-09 on 07-05-2008. But perhaps acknowledgement was not sent to Bangalore. I don't have any knowledge regarding this and even the person don't know about this. There was a refund which has not been received till now. I have checked the refund status for the same assessment year and shows nothing. Also I checked online return status by logging into the account of the assessee and Status for the ITR of assessment year 2008-09 is shown only "ITR Uploaded" and nothing else is mentioned.

Please tell me how can I claim this refund now? Can I sent acknowledgement to Bangalore now or will I need to file a revised return? But last dates have already gone? Please guide me on this - what to do?

Check the email. When the assessee sends the acknowledgement to CPC, the CPC shall send a receipt via email. If acknowledgement has not been sent, then the return filed earlier will not be processed and refund cannot be claimed. The time limit of filing belated return is over.

Dear kashyap,

It is better to do like this, go to the assessee's income tax ward center which is mentioned in the return and diretly have a talk with the officer.

And regarding revised return is not possible as due date is over so you take your aknowledment to the it department itself and explain to the officer.
