If one wants to contribute more than 12% is it possible?
Also, what is minimum employee contribution that is mandatory in nature?

employee can contribute any amount. The minimum amount should be 12 percent of the salary

yes it is possible ...
if the employer contributing toward RPF of employee more than 12% then it shall be taxable for employee...
however employer can claim deduction in 36 (1) of in pgbp...
provision.. deduction is allowed --
10%of the basic salary.
or employer contribution whichever is lower..
And employee can contribute any amount as much as he want...
