what is the meaning of "helm of affairs of the company". . . . . Eg. Directors are at the helm of affairs of the co.

The Board of Directors are responsible to take major decisions for their company and thus entrusted with the task of managing the affairs of the company. This role is carried out by people sitting in top managerial position and hence they are said to be at the HELM OF AFFAIRS.
