I want to pursue L.L.B. (General), in order to gain knowledge in the law based subjects. I want experts' sugesstions over this matter. Is L.L.B. a good choice for a Practicing Chartered Accountant??

Do a member needs to obtain permission from ICAI before pursuing L.L.B??

Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards

As far as permission form ICAI for pursuing LLB is concerned, it should not be a problem. As per Clause (5) of the ‘Permission granted generally’ of Appendix 9 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, a chartered accountant in practice is generally permitted to attend classes and appear for any examination.

Since you are already a Member You dont need to take any permission from ICAI to carry on any educational course or Persue any degree or Studies,

Also if you do LLB & wish to practice LAW along with CA then too you dont need any Permission & practicing LAW ( Advocate ) along with CA also Permitted, So You can Practice Both CA & LLB togather.

Also if you check the Audit Paper of May 2013 There was a Question on this same issue in Proff Ethics of a CA & Advocate & Practicing Both togather.

Go ahead doing it, You will find it helpful in Profession in Long Run

Thanks for the suggestions and replies............

Although ICAI has granted the permission for practicing the profession of law but it is subject to prior permission from the Bar Council of India. On the other hand, Bar Council of India does not allow any other professional to practice the profession of law . Hence, it is not possible for an individual to practice both the professions simultaneously.
.
Members of the ICAI in practice who are otherwise eligible may practise as advocates subject to the permission of the Bar Council but in such case, they should not use designation ‘Chartered Accountant’ in respect of the matters involving the practice as an advocate. In respect of other matters they should use the designation ‘Chartered Accountant’ but they should not use the designation ‘Chartered Accountant’ and ‘Advocate’ simultaneously. Council direction under Clause (7) of Part I of the First Schedule to the The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 .
.
Section 33 of The Advocates Act, 1961 bars any other professional to practice in any court or before any authority etc. Section 49 of the Advocates Act gives general powers to the Bar Council of India to make such rules. Under this power the Bar Council of India has framed the rules which prohibits an advocate from engaging in any other profession other than practicing the profession of law.

i wonder when u r into practice, will that really matter if you do any additional course?

if u want to gain knowledge, u can just read the books. nevertheless its your decision. so go ahead if u really want to do it

Mr. Go Green, so u mean, a Practing CA should not do any additional course????

i want to do CA course bt i  am already register for CS & LLB so can i eligible for registering for CA course plz give replay

From your profile i read llb* .... so just out of curiosity , have already taken admission to llb or are thinking of doing so ..

From this year onwards , the universities grant commission has made llm degree of one year , therefore if you are practising professional and have time and resources to pursue an additional course , then you should not only rest on llb but also go for llm as it is available by correspondence (from major reputed universities also ).

As already stated , the bar council does not allow a lawyer to simulteneously practise any other proffession.

yes, i have already taken admission in LLB...... lets see what happens.......
