friends, your patriotism is appreciable. but, lets put the facts first.in cases like this, we chartered accountants are just mute witness. there is contradiction as to the amount of revenue lost by the government. the claim of the C&AG that the loss is rs. 1.76 lakh crore has not been substantiated. however the minimum loss has been put at 38000 crores. this in itself is a big figure.
further, all of us are party to this problem of corruption. how many chartered accountants are there who have not oiled the hands of the income tax authorities to enable favourable assessment of their client's income or their own?. how many of us, writing these columns have done a violation and paid the full penalty?. but for independence day, republic day and days on which india plays pakistan in any game, how many of us feel the pride of being an indian?. how many of us have stayed back on election days to cast our vote rather than executing a planned holiday?. how many of us (including my self) have correctly claimed our audit conveyance bill or reported the exact leave status to the institute (along with form 108 / 109)?. the answers are obvious.
i am not intending to hurt the feelings of my professional brothers who have voiced their opinion here. also, i am in no manner supporting the culprits of these crimes. they deserve to be shot to death (as done in china) or stripped of their citizenship (as done in arab countries). but, we cannot run away from the reality. being professionals possessing expert knowledge on taxation, we have also advised tax planning measures to our clients. by these actions, we have also caused a revenue loss to the government.
friends, please ponder over these points and suggest me the solutions.
