Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether you can use the ITR 1 form for income including salary, interest, dividend, and Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG) up to £50,000. While ITR 1 generally doesn't allow for capital gains reporting, there's a mention of potential changes for AY 2026-27 allowing LTCG up to £1.25 lakh under Section 112A. However, for the current assessment year, having any LTCG means you'll likely need to use ITR 2 instead.

No, you cannot use ITR-1 if you have Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG), because ITR-1 does not permit capital gains income or contain columns for it. Even though the LTCG amount is small (₹50,000), having capital gains makes you ineligible for ITR-1, and you must file your return using ITR-2 instead.

I had read somewhere that For AY 2026-27, you can report Long-term Capital Gains (LTCG) under Section 112A (from listed equity shares or equity mutual funds) in ITR-1, as long as the gains are up to ₹1.25 lakh.
