ITR-2 Excel Utility for AY-2025-26, My Update on using it

Down loaded the ITR-2 for AY2025-26 yesterday , when I had posted the message about its availability on the I-T Portal.

Tried to use it in various ways till now for calculation of my Self Assessment Tax.

Found it is too buggy at the moment and behavious changes depending on manual filling data, versus using prefilled data.

When using prefilled data, the utility insists on details of salary income [ which I do not have ] and tax calculation failed.

CG validation, insists on Year of property Sale in LTCG and keeps on repeating the same message although data was already entered.

After saving and closing the excel utility, when opening it next time, excel says file is corrupted and needs repairs. And on agreeing for repair, opens it with a message about some graphics corruption. This is happening every time.

I am taking rest now after trying to bring this Mischief Maker under control for almost 10 hours and not succedding yet.

Anyone succeeding in using it, plz update your experience.

Thanks

Your assessment about the utility is perfect. It is indeed behaving that way. What I find odd is not many are speaking about it. Does that mean it is working for others?

Also, in one of the tries (with pre-filled data), after answering and correcting all its convoluted requests, I succeeded in generating json file. The webite, however, then threw an error while uploading that json. It said the error descripttion was "Caught Error Descripttion as null" !! Lol. I gave up on pre-filled and tried all manual. This time I got stuck on the very 1st page with myriad of validation fails like -

  • "select condition for residential status"  -  No option anywhere!
  • "are you a director of comapny?"  -  Reply cell grayed out & can't be selected
  • "held any unlisted shares?"  -  Reply cell grayed out
  • "claim benefit u/s 115H?"  -  Reply cell grayed out

Crazy.

Edit: The word 'descripttion' above is showing up with 2 t's. It is this website's bug. Even here it may have 2 t's after I save this edit.

@ Cs26kit

Thanks for responding and welcome to the game of bringing this beast under control.

Regarding, date entry issues, I hope you started with Home and unselected all the Schedules you do not need.

If you did not, then start with an absolutely fresh utility package and do it. (I found, that itself has effect on how the rest of the Schedules allow us to do work.).

In the General Schedule, where you enter your name, address etc, there is place for selecting residential status through a drop down menu. If you search for it you will locate it.

Regarding the other three issues you wrote, give me till 14th to again attack this utility. I will provide my findings after that.

I am sure, Infosys staff are reading our feedbacks which would help in bug removal. Cannot fully blame them as the changes in I-T rules are coming rapidly and abruptly.

About the CCI site changing spellings of our input, that is indeed a problem. I hope they would tackle it soon.

Rgds

@ Ranjan

I didn't mention any "date entry" issues.

The problems I mentioned are on the very first schedule to be filled (titled Part A, which is sequentially the 2nd sheet). So, it should have zero bearing on whether I select or deselect any schedules in the Home tab. I do not know how many more issues are awaiting in the later ones. lol.

Hope there is a solution to this craziness. And it is absolutely the fault of TCS. You cannot have such basic errors on the very first schedule.. This shows no real in-depth testing went in. the 1st schedule should be kids play to these devs as it is only basic info. Like Microsoft Windows, we are the beta testers!

@ Cs26kit

Infosys took over the contract from TCS 5 years back. And all the hell started with ITR filing.

First year of Infosys, the filing date had to be extended to 31 Dec from 31 July. Those were the days!!!!! This year, it has been extended only to 15 Sept.

While TCS was handling it, I never had any problem.

@ Ranjan

Sorry for the mistake. Of course, I meant it for whoever the current Organization is (that's Infy) because the comment was pertaining to this year's utility. Anyway, back to the actual topic. If you can "tame this buggy beast" please let me know how.

Edit - Everything validated in the Utility & the json file is generated but the weird error while uploading the json file still persists - "Caught Error Descripttion as null".

At my wits' end. :/

Infosys does all inferior projects to make money.

They do not have right expertise, only a hype that they are great players in IT world.

I have a position open for washing my car, I can only consider Infosys CEO worth of that job only.

Hello

Some how I managed to file one client's return using ITR2.

But now its stops working.  I think certain mandatory cells are hidden. For eg. for NRI, "Jurisdiction of Residence" is required. When I tried Ctl+F,  the cell concerned is E26 but that cell is apparently hidden. Same for  "condition for residential status"

@ Thomas John

When you say "file" were you actually able to upload the ITR-2 JSON file on IT website? If yes, then which verison of MS Office are you using?

@ Thomas John

Yes Thomas. Plz write full details like we have been doing.

Otherwise it becomes difficult to understand what worked and what did not.

@ Csk26kit

When I answered against your first response, I wrote data entry, not date entry.

The CCI site must have changed the word.

Perhaps AI on CCI site playing games or revolting due to ITR-2 overload.

Double posted by mistake

@ Dheerajlal Rambhia

Dheerajlal ji namaskar.

We all are awaiting your valuable inputs.

@ Csk26 / @ Ranjan

Excel version details attached.

I filed for one person but cannot do now. Not sure what I did differently then.

@ Csk26kit,

Following are against your response yesterday, but you might have already found the following:-

Condition of Resident - 4 rows below where you select Resident or Non Resident

Director Of A Company - Yes / No Selectable works , the cell shade looks greyish but allows selection

Held Any Unlisted Shares - Yes / No Selectable works, the cell shade looks greyish but allows selection.

Claim Benefit u/s 115H - The Yes / No selection depends on selection of Residency status. Would allow selection for Residents only.
