ITR-2 Excel Utility for AY-2025-26, My Update on using it

For all members reading this thread.

From feedback by @ Sushant Bidaye in another related thread.

It looks like that MSWindows 11 with MS365 [ should be with MSOffice 2021 as minimum] is able to tackle the beast [ITR-2 Version 1.0 AY2025-26],

Including json creation , json saving and json uploading.

So all needing to file using Excel Utility ITR-2 Version 1.0, AY2025-26

must have a machine with MSWin 11, with Excel 2021

or purchase a machine

or rent a machine.

@ Cs26kit

I was again going through this thread to check, if I missed any info.

Noticed that you already tried Excel 2021 and Excel 2024 also in addition to Excel 2016.

So it is all mystery

How @ Sushant Bidaye succeeded.

How @ Thomas John succeeded filing once using Excel 2016. After the first success, did not succeed.

How @ Debashish Ghosh succeeded twice.

I myself using Excel 2016 managed to calculate tax and after that stuck at json generation.

You generated json, but could not upload.

I now made one more attempt to generate json, by rebooting the laptop to clean out the RAM fully, then only did the ITR-2 job of generating json. Same problem remains, goes through all steps but "Save json" fails in the end with the messages I already posted yesterday.

I was thinking of borrowing someone else's machine with Win 11, Office 2021 but now giving up the idea.

I think, I would wait for Infy to issue the next version of the utility.

And it could become like when InFy got the contract, the filing date for ITR-2/3 could get extended to 31 Dec 2025.

@ Ranjan

Yes the 2024 verison I mentioned was when I tried it on a Windows 11, Excel 2024 version - both pre-filled and manual methods gave the same upload error. I now await the Online ITR-2 release or someone to post a "repeatable" working method in this thread. In the mean time, I will intermittently try to upload the json generated using the pre-filled method and see if it works but won't manually fill it from scratch anymore.

What is extremely surprising to me is that despite your thread being #1 on the Popular Discussion chart, not many (including CAs) have commented whether they succeeded in filing. If failed, then they could have listed the errors they got & if succeeded then they could have helped by providing pointers for others to replicate.

@ Cs26kit

CAs do not wish to highlight individually and get marked/stamped by..

I think all of them are waiting for the CA Body to highlight the issue to the FM. And then FM will do the necessary with InFy as happened earlier. And the filing deadline moved to 31 Dec

It may happen in a week's time I think

I AM TRYING TO FILE ITR-2 FOR TWO DAYS BUT STILL I AM NOT ABLE TO FILE. SOMETIMES IT SAYS TO WRITE SALARY IN SALARY SHEUDULE WHICH IS ALREADY WRITTEN. AFTER COMPLETING  ITRS -2 WHEN I TRY TO CREAT JSON FILE IT GIVES CONTINUOUS ERROR  AND NO JSON FILE IS CREATED. SO THIS ITR 2  IS IMFRUCTUOUS.

@ Mukesh Kumar

We all sufferers of the BEAST fully sympathize with you.

But do not give up, be tenacious as you must be in your legal profession.

@ Neha

This is a message for you.

You have disappeared from the forum after the miracle of ITR-2 appearance!!

I managed to calculate my Self Assessment tax after many efforts with the utility.

Hope you could as well.

Would you like to add your good luck or misery to this thread for our enlightenment?

God bless you all for putting so much effort in solving issues of ITR forms, Infosys should pay you for your services, you all are working for them for free to find out their glitches, your invaluable time is being wasted on technical issues.

Well, efforts never go waste, will bring fruits for others too.

After reading all comments here, I am not even trying for ITR forms now, will wait until clear signal from this forum.

Thanks to you all.

I tried to generate JSON file from the ITR2 Excel utility and inspite of all schedules having proper data and all schedules validated, the JSON page showing NA in the Amount.

@ J S Bhavsar

Just under your post about json , one ad showing Intermittent Fasting Plan.

Does it mean that we all should start fasting for the Almighty to have mercy and save us from the misery of this ITR-2 misbehaviour.

@ J S BHAVSAR

You point to another glitch that I was wondering whether it was showing up just for me. After the "Generate JSON" command succeeds, a new sheet titled "SUMMARY" is presented. The row for Schedule S on this sheet under column "No. of Entries" shows 1 but the corresponding "Amount" column says "NA". It should ideally show the Total Salary (after Std. Deduction).

Also, this Summary sheet does not show the OS Schedule at all! Even after everything is entered correctly the Summary generated incorrectly shows NA for some rows as well as omits other rows that should be present. If the final Summary by the Utility itself is erroenous, then the generated JSON will be similar.

Even then I tried uploading the generated JSON but the site gives me a non descriptttive NULL error on upload (validation fail). When I check the JSON in a text editor, it correctly shows all the fields and amount I entered. Strange things!

@ Ranjan

The 'Calculate Tax' button is now confirmed glitchy for me. After its done "calculating" I have to scroll down and check if has in fact correctly done what it is supposed to do. 2-3 tries minimum each time to get the correct result. Also, once it is correct and I save & exit the Excel file, on the next reopen those Calculated columns are again incorrectly filled. I have to redo Calc Tax 2-3 times to get back the correct result. This means that the opening macros in the sheet overwrite saved cells!

Also, regarding the "Summary" sheet issue mentioned above, I would love to know from those who successfully uploaded the json for ITR-2, whether their summary sheet correctly reflected all the data they entered. The JSON, as I mentioned above, all the fields and amount I entered. Whether those fields follow the intended structure or if the JSON creation leads internal data corruption is another matter.

@ Cs26kit

If you were able to generate json and all the fields are showing correct data, but you are unable to upload for filing, then my reading , still, is that , your json is fine but the software or AI or whatever is checking the json on I-T Portal at time of uploading must have gone corrupt.

I feel this because, @ Thomas John could upload one json and later could not.

@ Debashish Ghosh no longer replying so do not know his latest experience.

However, millions are filing ITR-1 without any hassle. And final processing and refund issue going on, my relative got his refund in the bank after 10 days of ITR-1 filing.

@ Ranjan

The issue I foresee is the "SUMMARY" sheet that is generated when the "Generate JSON" command is successful. As @ JSBhavsar said above, it does not compeltely reflect what the user entered. In fact, I checked one of the youtube videos of someone showing ITR-2 offline filing. Even there his Schedule S showed 1 entry but NA amount in the Summary. He didn't actually show the upload though. So, who knows.

As far as ITR-1 is concerned it is indeed a smooth ride whether it be online or the offline standalone utility (which is an EXE installation). I have observed or heard no hitches whatsoever.

@ Rajan

Another addition to the previous post. This is for your perusal. The Summary sheet that is generated at the end has the following instructions at the bottom. My comments are in parenthesis.

Instructions

1. Verify the count of number of entries against each schedule.

(This is mostly shown correctly in the Preview except where couple of rows with data have been omitted altogether)

2. Ensure the total number of entries entered per schedule is valid and being reflected in the preview sheet.

(Entries correct but the Amount shows "NA". Again, couple of rows omitted)

3. In case this count does not match the number of entries, you may check and update the schedules.

(This here is foolishness. Blame the user!)

4. Click on ‘Save XML’ to generate the XML file if all the details are verified.

The only button available on this summary sheet is "Generate JSON". They didn't even bother editing the Summary sheet text strings!

5. All Schedules which are optional and not filled are reported as ‘Empty’ in Preview

(This is the only correct thing in the Preview but which also is categorically useless)

Anyone from Infy, if you reading this, you have not released an Excel Utility. You have released a half-baked, untested Torture Utility. Guess quality requires good coders & testers not just edicts of extra long work hours. Kindly release updated version with these things sorted out.
