Dear Friends,

I`m sure all of u who have come 2 read this message must be the ones who are either suffering or have suffered the tentacles of one of the most hated and presumably boring and useless subject in CA final - ISCA (formerky known as MICS a.k.a matter inducing chronic sleep).

I`m sure many would agree with me that ISCA - the subject is not onyl complex and incomprehensible but tha study material has also been presented in a complex way with a very complex language. The topics covered are boring and most of them are useless practically in daily life. i`ve seen students hating it, cursing it and crying over ISCA, i`ve also known students who have failed multiple attempts just due to ISCA and despite having great knowledge in other subjects are still not CAs.

I`m saying all this despite the fact that i don`t despise this subject so much, having keen interest in technology and i did understand quite a lot of it conceptually. I`m saying all this despite the fact i scored 64 in ISCA.

Akthought i`m no learned member of the repectable Board of Studies or an experienced Academician however i hope that some day the Institute realises some of the suggestions i present here to make ISCA more interesting :

1.. Use of more DIAGRAMS, CHARTS and TABLES to explain complex topics and simplify the text.

2.Use of lucid and easy language so that even students with not much exposure to technology or not having strong command over english can understant the complex concetps of ISCA easily.

3.More empahsis on CASE STUDIES so that we are able to apply what we learn in ISCA to real life situations and can understand its application, otherwise it feels totally out of the world.

4.Deletion of Excessively useless or redndant portions of chapters such as SDLC , CONTROLS , IS STANDARDS etc. The aim of the institute shouldn`t be to make us computer engineers or technology specialist but to make us equippied to critically evaluate Information Systems.

5.Rather than having childish topics like advantages, disadvantages and features etc of ERP etc we should be exposed to some basic features of an ERP programme and how ERP can be used in Small and Medium emterprises by auditors.

6.Rather than having elaborate theorotical topics realted to INternal Control (that chapter is endless) interesting topics such as HOW TO IMPLEMENT INTERNAL CONTORL or PRACTICAL ISSUES FACED BY ORGANISATIONS AND HOW AND AUDITOR CAN DETECT THEM. The chapter of Controls can be useful only if we know how to Understand and Implement IS controls in real life and the way the chapter is presented in a Dull,Mundane and theorotical manner running into over a hundred pages, its impossibly useless.

7. SDLC - should be revised to remove the useless details on various stages of software develpoment, that should be left to software engineer. We should be exposed to the security loopholes that can arise from AUDIT point of view and to useful softwares that would be useful in our Office.

8.CAAT - Computer Aided Audit Techniques - we are just given a brief technical overviw on this topic. I would rather like a chapter dedicated to this very important topic in which rather that focusing on complex technical aspects , focus should be on teaching us How we can use CAAT in daily life to make our audit easier and me efficient.

9.CYBER ACT - This is a very interesting and useful chapter and i feel that we should study this in detail as we would be offering advice to clients on matters related to IT ACT much more in future and thus more case studies or real life judgements etc should be exposed to make this chapter more relateable and real life.

The list of suggestions can go on and on, however i`ve tried t o control myself and keep it restricted to specific points. I would love to get all my friends response on this issue of a COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF ISCA SYLLABUS tomake it more INTERESTING , USEFUL AND CONCEIVABLE!

with regards,
