Hi I am a ca final student relying on self study. At present I use our module for costing & QT. Indeed the module is very good for this subject. But now while reading one chapter, I am finding it hard to understand. I may still continue to refer the module but just want to know about some alternative options. I heard that Ravi M Kishore's book is good for self study & can be relied on for understanding the concepts. Have heard the same about the book by Saxena & Vasisht. So I want to know what u guys feel about these books. Only those have used or are using any of these books for ca final costing need to respond. Others pls ignore this post. Also pls dont give one-line replies like it is an excellent book or u can get an exemption by referring to this book, etc. Pls also dont quote others replies. I am really sorry for giving too many instructions. Its just that I want to get only quality replies. What I need to know is ur experience regarding any of these books. Pls share it  with me briefly, if u can spare a few minutes..

Dear Jithin,

To my apprehension, since i do have acquaintance with both of the books under discussion, you should go through Saxena's Text as well as Manual to have indepth knowledge of the subject.

Saxena's Text and Manual are far better than Ravi's.

As far as your restrictions to the members are concerned, i have also noted the same thing as a major problem of this forum that only few professionals reply and rest of the members(just to accelerate their "numbers") reply that he/she has been agreed with x or y, with out indicating his/her own views. In this way, poster as well as viewers have to go through so many posts, most of which are irrelevant, to arrive at the proper response. (Even most of the so called senior members have become "senior" using this "strategy")

Furthermore, You should understand that it is a public forum and no one can restrict any other member for posting his/her views. So you will have to bear the same.

I hope you understand.

Best Regards,

Desperado.

Dear jithin, if you would like to b confident in this subject .. You should not rely on books, arrange  some class notes for being confident in ths paper.

I am having both the books .. (also having padhukas)

Presently i m studyng from sanjay agarwal sir notes & vedio lactures.  Much better.

Thanks a lot sir..But do Saxena cover quantitative techniques thoroughly? I am asking this because I did not find a mention about any of the QT topics in the contents of this book as given on the website of a bookstore. This is the link of that site https://www.lawbookshop.net/essentials-cost-accounting-p-487.html  Are u talking about the same book or some other book of the author? Also could u kindly explain why Saxena is better than Ravi M Kishore,e.g.is the book more comprehensive or written in a simple language with ample examples. Hope I am not troubling u with too many questions.

Regards,

Jithin

Hi Hitesh, thanks a lot for replying. I am actually scared of class notes. One of my friends too told me to use class notes. But I am not sure if it is the right thing to do for a person doing self study. Also using reference books is a tried & tested strategy for me(did the same for PE 1 & PE2 and got really good marks)..So I dont want to change it now. But Hitesh, please tell me why you are not using Saxena & Ravi Kishore? Is it bcoz of the bulkiness of these books or is there some other reason?

NOBODY ELSE REFERRING SAXENA OR RAVI M KISHORE??

Ravi M Kishore is much better & Updated...

Thanks Rahul..But I want to know why u think it is better? Pls elaborate a bit on this..Want to get a reply similar to the one I gave under this link  /forum/book-for-sfm-pattabhi-ram-or-sridhar--117331.asp

I also want to know whether this book is good for QT.
