In my last (AY2010-11) inomce tax return, I applied for a refund. But in the efiling acknowledgement, it was noted that
ADJUSTMENT OF REFUND AGAINST DEMAND OUTSTANDING has been made for AY 2008-09.
Can anyone help me with how do I know how much I owe? I never get any letter from the it department.
I am not currently in India and that make me very difficult to chase up with people?
I am ready to pay the tax consultants, if they can help me on this?

My que is : how do I know the tax amount that I owe to government for the AY2008? I dont think I can get that from www.tin-nsdl.com.
You can look into the assessment order 143(1) which you must have received for that AY.
You can also view your tax credit in 26AS at www.incometaxefiling.gov.in for that AY.
Usually, such adjustments made by IT are followed by a letter to the assessee, therefore, you might have been informed via a letter.
