how to file income tax return online

You need a software that generates the e-return. (I think you can download it freely from IncomeTax  web site.)

Please paste the following link in your browser:

First you must Login if you have already registered.

In the next step: on the extreme left side you will find "SUBMIT RETURN" & " SELECT ASSESSMENT YEAR"

After  that upload the e-return. You will get an acknowledgement known as ITR-V

It is better to print 2 copies of ITR-V

sign it and send one copy to Banglore

“Income Tax Department – CPC, Post Bag No - 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore - 560100, Karnataka, ” BY ORDINARY POST ONLY within 30 days after the date of transmitting the data electronically.

please go through the above link.

You will get a letter of intimation U/s 141 from Banglore or an email.

 i have downloded form  saral ii and filled it up off line .  when i tried to upload it after login it is  asking for " xml file". how this xml file is created. pls help me.

You must download the software provided by the IT Dept

Install it and enter saral-2 details in the form provided by that software

Later you can find "e-return" option in the menu

The software generates the saved saral into xml format suitable for uploading.

You must Download the return preparation software from the download section and fill the required ITR form then validate the return to check it and then click on generate button to generate the xml version and save it then you can upload the same online at income tax website after login as you have already registered yourself.
