Got Notice under 234C

Hi Friends,

I got notice from incometax department for AY 2008-2009. My income was 1,33,758 for the year, therefore I need not pay any tax. I did file the return ontime (24/07/2008). I am a salaried employee.

Now I have received notice from incometax deparment saying I need to pay Rs. 481 under section 234C.

I am throughly confused. When I was not liable to pay any tax, why I received such notice. Is there any mistake by Incometax department ?

How shall I reply this notice to the A.O of the incometax department ? (Shailaja Prakash Lotlikar).

Based upon the details given by you it seems that IT dept may erroroneously send the notice to you.. Its better to contact the IT office and get clarified...

i think the AO has not committed any mistake.May be you have committed a mistake in filing your income tax return by wrongly stating your gender as male instead of female. So he might have sent you the notice.As far as the interest calculation goes, as the prima facie of you not in the tax net , no need to bother about that.

just write a reply letter U/s154 . simple. dont get confused by the section .... if at all,, its just a section which says u can reply to AO for any mistakes crept by him. this is just a part of the section.
