Quick Summary
This discussion addresses how to surrender excess Input Tax Credit (ITC) for the 2018-19 financial year when there's no output tax liability. While some suggest using Table 6 of GSTR-9 or paying via DRC-03 with interest if the ITC wasn't utilised, others clarify that unutilised ITC typically lapses automatically if not used. It's also noted that GST law generally permits refunds for unutilised ITC only in cases of zero-rated supplies or inverted duty structures.
The GST law permits the refund of unutilised ITC in two scenarios, namely if such credit accumulation is on account of zero rated suppliers or on account of inverted duty structure subject to certain exceptions.
