Dear Bhavna
Lets not carried away from 'short term' protectionist measures. Being professionals or aspiring professionals from a top notch institutes, we and institute should be striving for developing skills which does not require to resort to measures like setting up of 'price' (read CTC elsewhere in this note).
ICAI is the premier institute in field of accounting education in India so first, it should not follow the herd of 'second' rung MBA institutes to fix the the 'price' to hire CAs second it should take cue from IIMs (another premier institute which focus on quality and skills & not on setting up 'price' to get its gradutes hired) to maintain in lead in professional education.
Market dynamics does not remain stable. Setting of 'price' by ICAI may help few students who may have passed out final exam but may not have other skills (read - negotiating and bargaining, both equally important and relevant) to get a decent package but it will surely hurt many students who are really excellent as they may found companies may not give them package what they deserve (on pretext that they are offering what ICAI is asking for, at minimum). Its like a double edged sword which ultimately will hurt students only.
Lets ICAI focus on developing skills which makes its students relevant and market oriented and let the students explore their potential value in job market by ensuring maximum participation from companies across industries in campus placements.
