Crypto Tax Software

I am currently working on building an excel based template to calculate gains on crypto transactions,

all you will need to do is separate buy and sale transactions and paste them in a sheet. using VBA it automatically matches sale and purchases as per

I want to ask all professionals here which software are they currently using? and does it need transactions in Excel or does it directly connect to clients exchange accounts? if it does connect do you do it for each client separately every year? also let me know pricing if possible.

also how do you treat open short positions at year end? since it shows in 26AS that sale is made, and if you don't report that sale, 100% notice will be there.

Quick Summary
Discussion on crypto tax tools vs Excel models. Professionals prefer software like Koinly or CoinTracker with API/CSV integration. Excel suits small data. Open positions aren't taxed but must align with AIS/26AS to avoid notices.

  • Top tools used by professionals: Koinly, CoinTracker, CoinLedger

  • Most software:

    • Connect via API (no Excel needed)

    • Also support CSV imports

  • Excel tools:

    • Good for small or controlled datasets

    • Not scalable for real clients

  • Yearly workflow:

    • Setup once → reuse every year

  • Open positions:

    • Do NOT treat as income

    • BUT reconcile with AIS to avoid notices

  • Opportunity:

    • Build India-specific crypto tax solution, not generic calculator

Regarding open short positions.

If I have 20 coins @ 10000 each = 200 000

Tds deducted 2000, now my sales in Schedule VDA is short by 200 000, surely Notice will be issued. How do I report it in such a way to avoid notice?
