ITR Filing 790 views 8 replies

Tested the ITR-1 AY 2026-27 Excel Utility.

  1. Does not work in Excel 2016 , even though I T Dept says Excel 2016 or above.
  2. Can open in Excel 2019, Windows 10, 64Bit without problem.
  3. Tried with Prefetch data. Imported the data into excel utility from Prefetch json without issue.
  4. Tried to validate , all Schedules validate without problem except Schedule "Income Details"
  5. Schedule "Income Details" validation failing with pop up message "run time error 13 type mismatch". Filled up manually data at various fields to ensure correct data type - PROBLEM CONTINUES.
  6. Tried with 3 different Individual Filers prefetch json , same issue .

Anyone else tried ? Please provide your experience.

Quick Summary
Users reported that the ITR-1 AY 2026-27 Excel Utility Version 1.0 fails validation in Excel 2016 with "Run-time error 13 Type Mismatch" in the Income Details schedule. Suggested fixes include checking regional settings, re-entering data manually, updating Excel, or using online filing.

Recommended Steps

  1. Wait a Little Longer: If the 24-hour window has just passed, try logging out, clearing your browser cache, and logging back in after a few hours. Sometimes, the status update in the portal’s backend takes slightly longer than the official window.

  2. Check for Notifications: Log in to the Income Tax e-filing portal and check your dashboard or the "Worklist" for any messages or alerts regarding your submission. If the generation failed due to validation errors, you will likely see a notification there.

  3. Verify the Submission Status: Ensure that your Form 10BD status is marked as "Successfully Filed" and not just "Submitted" or "Pending." You can check this under the "View Filed Forms" section.

  4. Review the CSV Format: If you continue to face issues and suspect a validation error (especially if you uploaded a large number of entries), review the Instruction sheet for CSV of Form 10BD to ensure all fields, particularly donor PAN and donation amounts, were in the correct format.

If you still cannot download the forms after another 24-hour wait, you may want to contact the Income Tax Department's helpline or raise a grievance through the e-filing portal's "Helpdesk" or "Raise a Grievance" feature to confirm if there is a technical issue specific to your filing.

@ Aashok FC Advisory

Sir,

I was highlighting problem with the ITR-1 Excel Utility for AY 2026-27, Ver 1.0, Released on 15 May 2026.

Your reply above does not relate to what I posted.

Please provide your valuable feedback on what I posted.

The "Run-time error 13: Type Mismatch" in the ITR-1 Excel utility typically occurs when the macro encounters data in a format it does not expect. Here are the steps to troubleshoot this issue, presented pointwise:

  • Check Regional Settings: Ensure your Windows region and language settings are set to English (India) or English (United States). Mismatches in decimal separators (using a comma instead of a period) are a common cause of this error.

  • Validate Numeric Input: Ensure that no non-numeric characters (such as currency symbols like ₹, percent signs, or text) are present in cells requiring numbers. Type numbers as plain integers or decimals (e.g., 5000, not 5,000 or 5000/-).

  • Clean Manual Entry: If you are using pre-filled JSON data, try creating a new file and inputting the values for the "Income Details" section manually. This helps determine if the error is caused by corrupted or incompatible data imported from the pre-filled file.

  • Clear Hidden Formatting: Copying and pasting data from other applications often carries hidden formatting. To fix this, delete the content of the problematic cells entirely and type the data in manually.

  • Verify Excel Version: Ensure your Office installation is fully updated. While the utility supports Excel 2016 and above, it is often more stable on 64-bit versions of Excel 2019 or Microsoft 365.

  • Consider Online Filing: If the Excel utility continues to trigger the error, use the Online Filing option on the official Income Tax e-filing portal. This bypasses the Excel macro environment entirely and is often more reliable for simple returns like ITR-1.

The "Type Mismatch" error is likely due to incorrect regional formatting or invalid characters within numeric fields. To resolve it, verify your system regional settings, manually re-enter data without special characters, or switch to the e-filing portal's online filing mode to avoid the Excel macro limitations.

Sorry for the previous error

Further update

Filled a fresh copy of the ITR-1 Excel file manually [ no import from any json file].

Same Validation problem persists with Schedule "INCOME DETAILS".

@ Aashok FC Advisory, the AI produced output you posted is not pertinent or helpful.

Someone should actually do the exercise like me to test the excel utility and report the findings.

BRO,

I AM FACING SAME PROBLEM, I FIRST TRIED IN MS OFFICE 2010 BUT ERROR OCCURED, LATER I INSTALLED OFFICE 2013 BUT SAME PORBLEM AS YOU MENTIONED ABOVE, ITR 4 FORM IS WORKING FINE BUT I THINK IT IS EXCEL UTILITY SOFTWARE PROBLEM,

SO WE CAN WAIT OR USE COMMON UTILITY 1-4, OR DIRECT ONLINE FILE OR WE CAN USE ANY THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE FOR JSON GENERATION

@ JAGDISH PARIHAR

Thanks for your efforts.

Hope a few other Forum Members would do the exrcise and post their experience here.

For Information of all members.

Succeeded in the exercise. Needs Excel 2021 or later with VBA Macro [ Not Macro]

Could Verify all Schedules and Calculate Tax and Create/Save json. Since it was a test exercise only, have not uploaded the json for ITR filing, but do not expect any issues.

The Excel Utilities for AY2026-27 have been created using VBA Macro, NOT MACRO.

So the utilities work in Excel 2021 [32Bit or 64Bit] but would not work in Excel 2019 or lower versions. Office 365 with updates has Excel 2021 or later, and the ITR Excel utilities work in Office 365.

While Enabling MACROs in TRUST CENTRE of Excel, ensure it says VBA MACRO , Not MACRO.

The I T Department should mention this clearly in the e filing portal to avoid problems being faced by many.
