Ca at 31

Dear Friends,

I would like to seek some guidance from you all regarding choosing CA as my career path. Please give me your valuable and practical advice.

1. My current qualification is B.Com, LL.B. and have more than 4 years of total work experience in LPO and Corporates. Currently working in a MNC in Intellectual Property related domain. I will be turning 31 this year. I am already pursuing CS executive and have taken exams for module 2. My question to you all is if it's a good idea to pursue CA at this age considering the factors like age and future job prospects. As I am already working, I may not be able to go for trainings required during CA and have to settle for a dummy training.

The reasons why I want to join CA is:

1. I am interested in accounting and CA is a global career.

2. I am currently not satisfied in my present job and do not have hard core experience in litigation, drafting and corporate laws.

3. I want  a bright future for myself. Cannot continue to work at a lower package all my life.

Your guidance on my query will be highly appreciated

i think you should concentrate on cs , it is also equivalent to ca in job prospectus, and cs & llb is a good combination , but you can also  pursue ca , there is no age matter in ca ,but you will have to go to articleship training regularly

don't worry about Articleship (Training).

there are various options. meet any ca final student. he will help you about this.

i beleive in current scenerio CS people can get good jobs with pay than a CA,because they are in less number than the requirement

Pursue a course out of passion and not out of compulsion. Age should not be a detriment in updating your knowledge by undergoing a course that will be beneficial. A classic case of age not a big factor, if you have a will and determination is that of Mr. S.D Bala, the co-author of Strategic Financial Management book for CA Final, who pursued his CA almost at the age of 50+. We need to draw inspiration from people like them.

Change the way you think about life, try to infuse positive vibes and you will be rewarded accordingly. Since you are a B.com, LLB degree holder and pursuing your CS Program and if you wish to get into CA stream, you can contemplate this option even now, as graduates can avail direct entry scheme.

The CS program is also under revision with change of syllabus and training period, the present15-month period will become a 24 or 36 months training period. Hence, be circumspect of the pros and cons before deciding to pursue any course.

Myths about one profession is superior and the other is not must be dodged, as every courses offers you unique areas of expertise and experience.

Take a practical view of life and pursue the course where your heart lies, never be entangled doing a course out of someone else's compulsion. For CA course, it is mandatory for you to undergo a 3-year training program under a practicing CA, so you may join a reasonably good firm and gain exposure to make best use of those 3 years. Do not ponder doing a dummy, because it will leave you with bitter feeling at a later point in life. Toil hard in life now, so that you could spend a better life later, rather than repenting 10 years down the line.

Best of luck for your future

Dear Saurabh, if u want to pursue ur career in drafting and corporate laws u should then concentrate in CS.

CS +LLB is a very good option.

If u go for CA then ur time spent in LLB is a sheer wastage.

CS itself is a professional qualification and equivlent to CA as far as job prospects are concerned.

in my opinon ssir u can go for llm in corporate affair + CS best combination

Thank you all for your valuable advices.

Age is not a constraint as someone has said above. I cleared CA at 39 (while holding two other professional courses ACS and ACWAI). I was working in Government and took three years leave (loss of pay) to do articles, passed in the First Attempt and stood first in Coimbatore district. So age is not  a constraint. Its only the determination that is warranted. All the best.
