Here are some questions to answer first?
1. What is your goal in wanting to become an investor In the stock market?
Be specific, not " I want to be as wealthy as possible or I want to be a billionaire." I want to make more money than what? Do you have a job?
2. Do you want to invest in common stocks only. The stock market is puny compared to the bond market. There are also commodity markets and currency markets besides bonds and stocks....and there are preferred stocks as well. So why the stock market?
3. Are you a risk taker or are you risk averse?
4. Do you have money to invest that will not affect your life style if you lose it all? Do not invest your rent or automobile payments in the stock market !!!
5. How much time do I have to devote to these tasks?
The last question is probably the most important. Good investors are always on the job, wherever they go, whatever they do.
After you have answered these questions begin by learning about the language of investing: accounting, finance, economics and business?
Jumping into an introductory accounting, finance or economics courses at college is a prerequisite to understanding why and how markets move. Stock picking comes later, once you understand all the underpinnings of the markets.
