Hi Bhawna, you have a problem, and it is a good problem to have! To choose between big fours and other audit firms. First of all, if any of your family members/family friends are CAs consult them first, take their suggestions. I would like to share a lot with you as i have finished articleship and have spent a good 4years! But this forum may not be enough for me to advise u properly as respected members are in big fours and in medium firms too. However if you are able to manage following things by joining a firm, then that firm should be ok!
1> U need a minimum of 20-25 hours of study in a week, both theretical aspects and practical aspects.
2> U need to attend coaching classes, not that u cannot manage by yourself, but it would make job easy, i recommend it.
3>U need a minimum of 4months exam leave for the first attempt
4>U should get exposure in many areas, not restricted to tax/audits alone!
5>By saying minimum exposure i mean, corporate audits (banks, limited/pvt cos), non profit organisation audit, firms/individuals, tax audits, (read income tax and other indirect taxes wherever i mention tax) exposure in preparing project reports, financial analysis, cost analysis, etc. U may not get everything in a firm, but select which gives u majority of what i have mentioned.
The above list is only a sample, for further queries please feel free to write to sandeep_2686 @ yahoo.co.in
Appreciate u consulting the CCI members in choosing a firm, but make sure u don mention the name of the firm. Wait for other members to respond. I did suffer a lot in selecting a firm which did not suit me, u don make that mistake, this is the intention in which i am showing so much interest.
Good luck.
