Hello everyone,

I have cleared my CA- Final in May 2012 in the First Attempt. I have a good academic record throughout. I havent been successfull in getting a job yet. I just gave one campus interview and and Interview in an MNC bank. I a bit weak in my communication skills i.e I get very nervous before Interviews. This refrains me from performing well in interviews, I cannot answer questions well. Im working on it and have improved quite a bit.

I get very apprehensive and scared of Technical questions asked in Interviews. Its been 6 months that I have cleared, I have lost touch over core concepts.

Please respected seniors as well as my CCI colleagues , GUIDE ME ON MY INTERVIEW PREPARATION TECHNIQUES AND SKILLS. I want to answer well in case of Technical questions too.

Please share your experiences.

Ill be very gratefull.

Thank you so much.

Having only good academic background and CA degree wont get you a good job!

Youl will find very difficult to find a suitable job since u have got no practical experience, and u couldnot answer any of the technical questions!

Try to get asylum in CA firm atleast, since u have already wasted more than six months....soon it will become one year !

Hii Sheetal,

Instead of sitting at home, try and join a CA Firm and start working, at the sametime go through the academic material once again as after such a long time (May, 2012) it would be difficult rapid fire technical questions during interview.

Kepp your self updated and focus on improving communication. Dont miss any opportunity to appear an interview.

Also try and build a strong networking.

All the Best !!

thAnks for sharing.

Thank you so much for your advice. Ill work on it.

Be practical. get success in exam is different from working condition in practically. so without wasting your time you should join any practising CA firm until you will get your job to enhance your practical exposure.be patience and look forward.................

Hi Sheetal,

It is good to know from your post, that you are willing to improve on your weaknesses. Yes, do not lose heart by adverse comments of what people say, rather start accepting constructive criticism to become more assertive and have a definitive direction in pursuit of your goals.

One important thing you need to note, that many people are nervous when it comes to attending interviews and you are no exception. The only difference is that they handle them a bit smarter and even you can do it, by overcoming the minor glitches to handle such situation at ease.

Wish to give couple of suggestions that might help you overcome this bottleneck. You can team up with a smart friend closer to you to conduct some mock interview both technical and non-technical and ask him or her to give a feedback in writing. On review of the feedback, if you find that the comments given by your friend is true and entails action from your end, then you need to overcome it but by your constant efforts to improve upon them.

You can do a self-mock interview by standing in front of a mirror and try to imitate the character of both the Interviewer and yourself; this will give you a fair idea of the gestures and body language, which is one of the key ingredients to perform well in an interview.

To improve on your communication skills, learn the trait of listening and then responding to situation. Be circumspect and conscious when you make a mistake and ensure you do not repeat such mistake again, this will infuse confidence in you. You can also watch English news or business channels, in particular where panel discussions take place. At the meantime, it becomes necessary for you to jot dot some important words, terms, phrases that you can check for its meaning and use it in your conversation, so that you can sound more confident and assertive.

Some quotes to pep you up:

Learning is more effective when it is an active rather than a passive process

 Euripides quotes

There is only one thing more painful than learning from experience and that is not learning from experience.

 Archibald MacLeish quotes

Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one’s self-esteem.  That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily.  ~Thomas Szasz

You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.  ~Clay P. Bedford

Best of luck

Thank you all....!

If you feel opportunities not knocking your door, try some alternatives like applying for practice and taking coaching classes ; joining with a local audit firm ; doing any other value added courses etc.

Openings are always there, they just need to be properly regulated and organized.

In today’s time ICAI membership only is not enough. For getting quick job after receiving ICAI  membership following practical things are necessary:

  1. More than basic understanding of accounting
  2. Good knowledge of Tally, SAP, IFRS, MIS working environment.
  3. Understanding of working as a finance part
  4. Good and practical knowledge of Taxation
  5. Positive attitude and patience.

Kindly appreciate if you are a new CA and have no knowledge of Tally or SAP or Taxation, than initially it may be a bit difficult for you to adjust.

It is high time for us to understand the fact that membership of ICAI and ICSI is no guarantee of good job or rather I would say good paying job. So for a better career it is must to focus on good articleship.

So my suggestion would be along with doing CA keep learning other practical courses like tally, SAP, ERP etc and be an expert of all this for better career.

All the best

Ankur sir, your posts are always meaningful and re-invigorating.

Thank you very much for great advice.

i wish u all the best and just do it. remove the feeling that i cant do first then u c what u can do
